Plantar fasciitis is an inflammatory condition of the fibrous band joining the heel to the ball of the foot. Plantar fasciitis can arise anywhere along the course of the fascia, however it most commonly presents itself in the heel. The tell tale sign of plantar fasciitis is intense pain upon arising in the morning. This pain will typically warm-up and subside after a few steps and then resurface again after increased activity. The main causes of plantar fasciitis include over pronation, (flat feet) and weight gain.
Plantar fasciitis is combated using good motion controlling shoes, orthotics, icing and a stretching regime.
The achilles tendon joins the calf muscle to the heel bone. Achilles tendonitis is an inflammatory condition that most commonly arises just above the heel bone on the back of the ankle, however, it can present itself anywhere along the tendon from mid calf to the base of the heel bone. The main causes for achilles tendonitis include tight heel cord and rapidly increasing activity.
Achilles tendonitis is treated using a multidisciplinary approach that includes orthotics with a heel lift to unload the tendon, icing and a stretching regime.
Hallux Valgus is a deformity of the big toe deviating toward the second toe. This angle will cause the joint to become enlarged. The enlarged joint can pose difficulties when trying to find proper fitting footwear. The joint may also stiffen over time causing pain when walking or wearing high heeled footwear. The most common causes of hallux valgus are overpronation (flat feet), ill fitting footwear and heredity.
Hallux valgus is treated differently depending on the stage at which it has progressed. Orthotics are typically used to control over pronation and slow the progression of the deformity. Toe separators, splints and proper fitting footwear can also aid in decreasing pain.
Edema is a term used for swelling and can happen anywhere in the body. Ankle edema is an unnatural pooling of fluid in the cells surrounding the ankle. It is characterized by increased ankle circumference and red or shiny skin over the swollen area. Edema of the lower limb can cause tired achy legs.
When treating ankle edema compression stockings are used to aid the body in returning blood and fluids back up toward the heart.
The tibialis posterior muscle serves as one of the main supporting structures of the arch of the foot. Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction is a condition caused by the weakening of the tendon resulting in flat feet that can progress to become quite severe and quite deforming.
Posterior tibialis tendon dysfunction is treated using aggressive arch supporting orthotics, motion controlling shoes and in severe cases an ankle brace as well.
Mortons neuroma is a painful disorder of the forefoot typically characterized by numbness, tingling or a burning sensation in two or more toes. Mortons neuroma generally begins as a nerve entrapment between 2 metatarsal heads and can eventually lead to a build up of a fibrous mass around that nerve. This can become very painful and is commonly aggravated by wearing tight fitting footwear.
Mortons neuroma, is treated using non-constrictive footwear and orthotics with aggressive metatarsal pads to help lift up the metatarsal arch and relieve the pressure on the nerve.
Metatarsalgia is a catch-all phrase for pain in the forefoot. Metatarsalgia can have a number of root causes. Pressure metatarsalgia is what is commonly referred to as metatarsalgia. The metatarsals are the knuckle like bones that make-up the ball of the foot. Over time, these metatarsals can drop down and begin bearing body weight that they are not designed for. This is commonly why thick callusing will develop to protect these bones and eventually lead to soft tissue shearing in the forefoot.
Metatarsalgia is treated with rigid rockered footwear and orthotics with metatarsal arch support to offload painful metatarsal heads.

Pedorthics in Motion creates its orthotics using a three dimensional plaster mould of the foot, casted using three different casting techniques. Styles of orthotics can vary infinitely depending on your foot type and the style of shoes the orthotics will be worn in.

Pedorthics in Motion carries the entire line of Jobst compression stockings. Pedorthics in motion is fully trained to do custom and off the shelf stockings.
